BITS FROM THE PITS: FEB 06/10![]() *Some bad news for a North Bay drag racer Rick Orton was in Ottawa last weeken d at a kick boxing tournament for his son when he received
a call from his father saying his garage had totally burnt down.... In the
garage was his mint 1981 Z28 Camaro that he raced in the street class, as
well as a mint 1967 ss350 Camaro valued at over $40,000. There is some
suspicion that arson is involved and if there is, you know we all hope they
catch the creep or creeps that did it. *Been gettin *Look for another Jr. Dragster driver to be pretty excited about the upcoming season as his Dad just went and picked up a brand new car for him. Look for a announcement sometime soon on the full Jr. Program this season which will be the best one ever thanks to the support of the advertiser's we have, and the hopes to add more. Our goal is too make this summer the best the Jr's have had and we are working to find as many advertisers to support this as possible. |
ELLIOT LAKE
TO CELEBRATE 11 YEARS OF DRAG RACING IN 2010: FEB. 6/2010 We
are extremely excited about the return to Elliot Lake for the 11th year in a
row, for a Benson Auto Parts Tour Event. The longest running out of town
race that exists on the tour, Elliot Lake always has something special to
entice the drivers back to the great north for, is one of the most fun
events each and every year. When I made the visit to Elliot Lake back in
1998 little did any of us realize how big this event would be even in the first
year, and it has grown each and every year since. Drawing car counts that
are now well over 400 and spectator counts that many race weekly race tracks
would die to have, yes there is something special about Elliot Lake Race. Many of
us that have been to national events on the NHRA or IHRA tour are quick to
point out that this is as about as close as your going to get to a National
Event type Bracket Race anywhere. The excitement that is all over town, and the
excitement that takes place at the race itself is like nothing else and
something you will not feel at a
regular race track. The event which will
take place July 16-17-18 will once again be a must stop for many of the
regular tour racers, and will once again feature some of the richest bracket
racing on Canadian Soil. The race which will kick off on Friday Night with
the famous all run Gamblers race, will also feature a Friday night , night
of fire show by the jet cars which also have been a main stay for this
event. A full day of racing and many other activities will take place on
Saturday, with a band and a huge party on Saturday night. Everything comes
to a climax on Sunday when the Super Pro Drivers run for a whopping $10,000.
to win which has everyone on the edge of their seat all day long. The event
is also more than just drag race, as a car show, kids things, and stunt
bikes are the norm for the spectators entertainment. Yes the Elliot Lake
race which is held at the Elliot Lake airport is more than just a drag race,
its a "Happening" that you don't want to miss. The event has long been
strongly supported by the City of Elliot Lake, and the North Shore Cruisers
Car Club, and with out this support would never happen, and as we earlier
said, it is a Happening" |

1st. RACING FOR 2010, A LITTLE
DIFFERENT, BUT ANY DRAG RACING IS GOOD RACING; FEB 06/10 Well fo lks my first drag racing experience of
2010 was a little different than anything I have ever watched before, as we
took in the USA Street Car Nationals at Bradenton Motorsports Park. We
earlier had planned to go to PBIR for the first nitro jam event of the year
but with the weather forecast rotten, we decided to stay on the west coast
and closer too home. When I say we, Carl & Karen Jessup, John and Bev
Adams, Al and Linda Ray and us took the races in together which made it even
more enjoyable. First of all there was not one single dragster there unlike
the Lucas Oil event that we will be taking in with Derek and Russ Adams in
about two weeks. Yes this was a street car (door slammer) race for sure, and
I saw more wheel stands in one day than i have seen in a long, long time at
drag races. Two names and individuals that I am very familiar with (both x
NHRA pro stock drivers) where there however,
