Derek Malcolm was extremely pleased with the debut of the brand new Chrome Wrox Ultra Car, as he went all the way too the semi finals on its maiden voyage, and only by a slip of the line may have been in the winners circle. Malcolm who made his way to the semi finals by beating up team mate Troy Davis in the Quarters, was first off the line to eventual winner Mike Chenier with a .507 light, only too give it back at the stripe when he lifted, the car worked flawlessly and says a lot for John Parks at Chrome Worx. Special thanks also goes out to the boys at D&D Performance as well as ADM Motorsports team driver Troy Davis for making sure the car was ready for opening day, and ready it was.
*With the race season starting we now go too post days for the web site on Monday's, in order to bring everyone up too date on the action that goes on at the track on the weekend. We will still have some posts on Fridays as we will do so when we feel there is some note worthy items to bring to your attention before we head into the weekend. We are off too a great start for the summer with things going very well on opening day.

*Just a reminder that Luskville Dragway will be open this weekend for Time Trials and the Young's Speed Shop Cruise Night, the Napa points contenders will be down the road at Mirabel Icar Dragway for a points race, returning on June 1-2 for Pontiac Days presented by W.O. Stinson and Son's.
*Just a reminder to anyone who is interested, the Luskville Dragway Golf Tournament is just around the corner (june8th) so get hold of Derek or Troy to get your name on the list, they can be contacted by email at derek@malcolmcarpentry.com or tdave1029@hotmail.com
RECORDS GET CRASHED WITH BIGGEST OPENING DAY IN HISTORH OF TRACK: MAY 20/2013
I have seen a lot of things over the past 35 years when it comes to what happens at Luskville Dragway, and trust me seeing the record setting crowd of spectators that came through the gates on a beautiful Sunny opening day was very gratifying, and exciting. We knew early it was going to be good, but little did we expect it too be so good, as a spectator crowd that would rival some of our feature attraction weekends showed up, too give the drivers a great audience to show off the start of a new season. One of the sure signs of how well the marketing has gone in any production is all much the phone rings, and the phone was ringing off the hook most of the week leading up too the opening day weekend at Luskville Dragway, so the signs where good for a good turnout, but no one knew just how good it was going to be. Yes it is a great way to start the season, and now if we can only keep it up. In a day and age where race tracks are doing what ever it takes to keep it going, Luskville Dragway was once against very fortunate to have things go well. As a  follow up to the opening day crowd should also be the comment on the cruise night which was also the biggest of the season so far, and the biggest one in a while going back a few years, thank you to everyone who made this years opening day a memorable one.
CHENIER, DOYLE, AND URSLAK TAKE DAY ONE OF MALCOLM CARPENTRY OPENING WEEKEND: MAY 20/13
Rookie of the year Mike Chenier didn't have to wait long to get into the winners circle as Chenier took his D&D Performance powered Dragster too the finals against Mike Ogilvie, and took it all the way to victory lane in the final. Chenier who redid his car this past winter with a new back half, new paint and new motor, was all grins in the winners circle on opening day. Chenier took out John Forsyth in the Quarters, Derek Malcolm in the semis and Mike Ogilvie in the finals was on fire all day long. Mike one of the few guys who was out testing earlier in the spring made that pay off with the big win early in the year. In Semi Pro Mike Doyle who is one of the veterans in Semi Pro beat up Ian Gould in the finals to take home his first win in a long while. Landyn Urslak was probably the most excited of the three winners as he took home his first win ever. Landyn took on and defeated Ashley Ogilvie in the finals in the Jr. Dragster Class. Although the Jr. class was big a number of drivers where not ready for opening day but will be in the next few weeks as things kick into high gear. So with Day one in the books, And now on to day two where the weather man came up very short with from his Friday forecast which called for sunshine all weekend. Come Sunday morning the skies where overcast and rained was called to hit at 1 pm, so thing got underway early in an effort to beat the weatherman. Well that almost happened as we did manage to get Semi Pro completed with Darryl Jensen beating Mike Devenny in the Finals for his first win of the season. In the Jr program the cars where down too the semi finals before the rain hit and the Super Pro guys where down too the Quarters. This part of the race will be finished up on Sunday morning June 9 prior to the regular day event scheduled for that weekend. The weekend finished up with a good crowd heading back too Busters Bar and Grill for some good food and some good friends.

Landyn Urslak picked up his first ever win on
Malcolm Carpentry Opening Day

Been a while for Mike Doyle, but Opening day saw him make
his way back too the winners circle

Shawn Oliver of Sudbury hauled all the way to just test,
but things went so well he ran eliminations

Street Car's where the big surprise as the pits where full
of nice looking pieces just like this one.
BITS FROM THE PITS: MAY 17/2013.

Starting this Monday we will be updating the web site twice a week, with before and after the weekend news and views so too speak, so things get really busy from here on in. We will have before the weekend races information and announcements and then on Monday we will bring race day or race weekend coverage of the weekends races and who won.
*The sport compact scene got a little hotter last week when Jean Piche brought his Dirty Performance Honda out for the first time this season and had some good results. Piche who is a staunch supporter of the growth of Sport Compact drag racing has issued a challenge to any and all for this weekend, as he will be there ready to go and take on anyone. Jean laid down an impressive 10:50 while taking the clutch out of the little Honda, but when asked if it would be fixed for next weekend, his comment was it will fixed by tomorrow. The 10:50 is one of the fastest pass's for a sport compact in a long while and Jean has set the bar pretty high for everyone. But with the red Honda out of Carleton Place running some mid 11's the week prior and he two have some problems I think we are in for an interesting summer in the Sport Compact Challenge racing.
*And talking about slick looking pieces, here is the first pics of the much anticipated debut of Denis Blacks new ride for 2013, a mean looking Bantam Roadster. Denis who is what we refer too as one of the good guys and someone who is a pleasure to have the track hopes to be out testing very soon. The pretty blue Bantam doesn't just look fast as it will be very fast with a whole new engine program for the new car, many are looking forward anxiously to see the new car.
*Here is another sign of how things are in the racing world, seems like every week anymore someone is closing or putting their place up for sale.  "Marion County International Raceway in LaRue, Ohio, is for sale. The facility consists of approximately 39 acres and has state-approved gas pumps, a cafe, shirt shack, tower with hospitality area and bleacher seating for 4,000. The quarter-mile drag strip is sanctioned by IHRA.
OPENING DAY IS FINALLY HERE, AND ITS THE 2-4 WEEKEND WHICH BRINGS BACK MANY MEMORIES: MAY 17/2013
The beginning of any season is a good deal, whether you are a hockey fan or a drag racer, and this weekend Luskville Dragway kick starts the 2013 season with two days of racing over the memorial day weekend. The long winter is finally over and the drag racing family will be back together, many changes will have taken place but one thing will not have, the love of being at the drag strip, smelling the rubber and hearing the sounds of NHRA Drag Racing. Things will kick off on Saturday with the Malcolm Carpentry Opening day, a full program that gets under way at 12:00, and finishes up Saturday Night with the Busters Bar and Grill Cruise Night.  Sunday sees a repeat of Saturdays regular action but racing starts at 10:30 for time trials an.d 1 pm for Eliminations, we finish things up with a back too Buster's Bar for a back too the bar party. The May 24 weekend, and drag racing don't get much better than that, free camping right at the race track just like it is every weekend. The May long weekend has given me many great memories at Luskville Dragway for 35 years now, and before that I was a regular at Dragway Park for the 2-4 weekend, back then it was the NHRA Winston World Championship races and it was virtually as good as a National Event, with Top Fuel, Nitro Funny's, Pro Stock. Drinking beer with the Late Grumpy Jenkins at the bar in Hamilton (I think it was called  Gilmores it was right at the bottom of the hill heading up too Stoney Creek) on a Friday Night. Camping at the track, live bands, corn roasts back when it was a blast to be there on the long weekend in May for sure for sure. So yes as we kick off another season on the May Long weekend many memories will be going through my head, and many more will about to be made, BE THERE.
SHANNONVILLE RESULTS, AS THE SEASON GETS UNDERWAY AT OUR SISTER TRACK: MAY 17/2013
So many times over the past 30 some years the weather man has played havoc with the opening day at Luskville Dragway, and even though this past weekend was the opening day at Shannonville, not Luskville the weather man still spoiled things for everyone. Yes in all honesty the weather couldn't have been much worse, as the cold temperatures where bad enough, but add in some winds that most southerner's would call a hurricane, and top that off with freezing rain, well you get the picture. So with cold weather things got underway a little late, but never less they did get under way and for some this was the first time out and some runs where better than no runs as many where also looking down the road too this weekend and opening day at Luskville Dragway. A good turnout of Jrs. took too the first round and whittled their way down too the quarter finals before the weather man made it impossible to continue, that race will be finished a a later date. Super Pro and  Semi Pro which both had less than stellar fields with the weatherman, mothers day and the early part of the season all playing a part in the turnout. However even with all the negatives there where many positives, first of all we got too race for a while, some drivers got too try their cars for the first time this season, and we all know that we are finally into racing season. So with race one down in the Shannonville schedule, all eyes turn too Luskville Dragway as they kick off the 2013 season with two big days of racing and a wild cruise night Saturday Night, BE THERE
FAST EDDIE RACEWEAR CONTINUES TO BE THE BEST DRESSED AT LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY: MAY 17/2013
If you happen to be wandering around Luskville Dragway and wonder wear"" all those fine looking uniforms come from, or where all those great looking custom t-shirts that you see wear" done, or where those fine looking ball caps wear" manufactured, you need to look no further than CHOKO Motorsports and a division of that company, FAST EDDIE RACE "WEAR. Yes Tony Paton, brother of Top Fuel Driver Todd Paton operates this division of Choko and does so with a passion and love of motorsports. Once again we are proud to say that we have Fast Eddie back as a major partner with us at Luskville Dragway. This will mark many years that Tony and the folks at Fast Eddie have been involved with us not only at Luskville, but a number of times on the Napa Tour as well. They produce some of the nicest race wear as well as supplying many with Simpson and Impact Safety gear as well. Fast Eddie is in the process of designing a all new T-Shirt for Luskville Dragway for 2013 and should be into production shortly, we all anticipate its arrivial.
BITS FROM THE PITS: MAY 10/2013.
*Important notice, please use the following number if trying too contact the track this weekend 613-715-1029

This weekend is the first race in the Shannonville Drag Racing Series, time trials and street cars on Saturday Night , Round One Sunday for Super Pro, Semi Pro, Street and Jrs. This is a great chance for some to get some licks in before the Luskville Dragway opening weekend which is May 18-19.
*Eryn Silverthorn was out testing last weekend in her new Jr. , Eryn will be vying for rookie of the year along with a number of other new drivers, once again showing such strength in our Jr. Program. Eryn who is the daughter of super pro racer Brad Silverthorn who painted the Jr. himself, and to Eryn's request the Jr. was painted the same as Dads street roadster. The Jr. Program is going to be pretty wild this season as Luskville Dragway will put forth more Jrs. than any other track in the country which says a lot for the future of our sport at Luskville Dragway. By the way Eryn did a great job and Mom and Dad should be very proud of their daughter who looks to be a very fast learner with the Jr.
*About 25 years ago Derek, Russ and Troy had their pics taken on a bicycle sitting on the starting line at Luskville Dragway, they were the next generation of Drag Racers to come along, and this past week our Grandson Cole, the next generation, decided he wanted to try out the start line also. We have been there for 33 years now and sometimes forget just how long that has been, but seeing a third generation sitting on the same staring line that I sat on back in the 70's, reminds me very quickly how time flies by, and how many changes have taken place. And over those thirty some years there have been many positive things said about the place, and oh yes every once and a while a 'troll' crawls out from under a rock and says something negative, usually someone who has never been there and knows nothing about the place or drag racing, but listening to that is just part of the job! We are very proud of Luskville Dragway as are many others, we are very proud of how far we have come with the track when we look back at what we took over in 1980. And NO we are not done moving forward, in fact quotes are being done on some more major improvements that can hopefully get done prior to the inter-track race the long weekend in July.
*Something we don't like to report on but something that is a sign of the times,  another drag strip closes its doors, Dallas Raceway in Crandall, Texas announced last week that it will close the track and thereby cease operations on Tuesday, May 7.
The track was scheduled to serve as the host of the X-DRL’s Hot Texas Nights on Aug. 16-17, which would have been the sixth of nine races during the X-DRL’s inaugural 2013 season. Staying alive in the motorsports world is no easy thing too do these days, as can be seen by more and more race tracks closing.

OPENING DAY JUST AROUND THE CORNER FOR LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY: MAY 10/2013
A number of drivers are getting pretty excited to get 2013 underway, and underway it will be next Saturday May 18-19 as we kick off the Napa Auto Parts Luskville Dragway series with action in Super Pro, Semi Pro, Jr. Dragster and Street. Yes we are only one week away from our points series getting underway, and a number of drivers are very anxious for that to happen. 2012 Super Pro Rookie of the year Mike Chenier has been hard at work all winter getting his Undercover redone and if testing is any indication he is more than ready to go. Mike Ogilvie will have a new blower style motor for this season which should make more horsepower and will certainly make more noise which what our sport is all about right. Pat Kohl has completely redone his many time winning Chevelle and moved it too Super Pro where he will make his début this season as well. Napa Tour Champ Derek Malcolm has a brand new top dragster to start the season, so will go through some breaking in time in all likely hood, before getting completely up to speed. Kayle Urslak has a brand new Jr. to start the season so he too will have a small getting use too curve like Malcolm. There are many new Jrs. this season bringing our totals to an incredible 21 cars registered for the points series this summer, most of those are stomping their feet to get out and get going. Semi Pro will also see some faces back out to kick off the season, that may have not been around every weekend last season, which should make for a pretty interesting season in this class also. The new Street for Trophy Class is a wait and see concept but talk has been good so far and don't be surprised if this class doesn't become another big hit. So its here, most are ready so lets go drag racing, track will be open on Friday for parking and pitting.

Going to have too say that we where all pleasantly surprised and pleased at the turnout for the first ever Custom Car Show last weekend at the EY Centre, with the quality and the turnout of the spectators over the two day show. Luskville Dragway was well represented with one of the representatives winning best race car in show. It gave us a chance to show everyone the quality of the race vehicles that run at Luskville Dragway and the professionalism of them all. In fact we are also pleased to announce that at least two new advertisers signed on coming directly out of the show and our display. Keep your eyes peeled to this sights especially all of you car guys who like too be "garage guys". stay tuned. Lets hope the show continues for the foreseeable future as once again I will say, Ottawa needs a performance car show. Besides the drag cars that where representing Luskville Dragway which obviously caught my attention, the car pictured to the right was on my top 10 list as well, yes and it just happened to be yellow. Can't say thank you enough to Paolo & crew, Mike & Family, Russ, Randy, Robert and all the other people who helped us promote Luskville Dragway over the weekend. Once again the racers at Luskville Dragway went way beyond the cause to support and promote our track.
*Well boys and girls Malcolm Carpentry opening day is just around the corner and we really need for everyone to try and be part of it, we know that some will be unable too because of going down south too the spring fling and to Cayuga for the Pro Mod race. And this makes it even more important that you that can be there are, opening day sets the tone for the season so please try and be part of this years affair.
*Look for another Jr. Dragster announced to be coming out soon, have talked on the phone a few times with these new comers to our sport, but say they have been working on getting involved after seeing what a great program and time everyone has at Luskville Dragway surrounding the Jr. Dragsters and the kids.
*One of Canada's very best super stock racers and someone who cut his teeth right at Luskville Dragway kicked off another season in fine fashion winning Super Stock at Richmond Dragway last weekend. Gianni Cantusci who has more wins under his belt than many won the first race on the IHRA circuit this season, but don't be surprised if it is not the last one as this team consisting of Father Frank and brother Frank Jr. will be in more winners circles I'm sure.
*Here is he first look at the finished product for Mike Chenier and his completely redone Speedy Auto Service dragster for 2013, Mike had the car back halved and repainted and it looks better than ever and it did look real good. Mike will be at Luskville Dragway on Saturday too get some early testing in on the new four link set up that was installed. Mike was very competitive with the car as a hard tail and now with the four link soft tail set look out competitors, as I predict this rookie of the year in 2012 will be a contender for the points championship in 2013. The car was also repainted with some major changes certainly making this car virtually a new car for the team. Join us Saturday and take in some early season testing by Mike and a number of other teams as everyone gets ready for the Malcolm Carpentry Opening weekend which is coming fast, May 18-19.
*An article well worth reading:  http://www.competitionplus.com/drag-racing/news/24929-racers-nhra-speak-about-houston-sportsman-cancellation

W.O.STINSON & SON'S CONTINUE THEIR SUPPORT OF THIS AREA'S NHRA DRAGSTRIP: MAY 3/2013
I'm not quite sure where to start this write but too say that W.O. Stinson & Son's have for decades been stead fast supporters of Luskville Dragway, this area's NHRA Sanctioned Drag Strip. Stinson is a fuel, oil, propane and all affiliated products supplier to this area and has been for years and years. The leader in Home Oil supplies as well as gas stations that cover most of eastern Ontario and western Quebec. They also can supply all of your propane needs and of course is the leader in supplying race fuel to all Motorsports enthusiast in the area. Yes Stinson has lead the way for years and continues to do so these days, the expansion and building of more and more gas stations, and the new construction of their office headquarters on Bank street quickly tells everyone the huge success of this locally owned and operated company. A very modern day company that believes very much in taking care of the customer something that is lost in this day and age among other companies. Stinson is the distributor of Pro Racing Fuels, Kendall Motor Oil and Brad Penn three companies that are synonymous with racing and race cars. W.O Stinson does not use contractors, every person who represents the company is an employee. Every vehicle and piece of equipment is owned and operated by W.O. Stinson and dispatched from various offices. The degree of control over day to day operations provides a level of service that other independents and large national firms can not match. Yes W.O. Stinson and Sons is a perfect example of the true Canadian success story and also the way that things are suppose to be done. Stinson delivers race fuel and other products to Luskville Dragway on a regular basis and you can have your products delivered right there as well, just give them a call and set it up and make your racing life that much easier. Luskville Dragway is very proud and privileged to have W.O. Stinson involved with us, but this is not the only venue that this great company supports as their backing of other events and racers can been seen in many areas. In ending the announcement I guess the main thing to say is "Support those that Support Us".
WILLY KATIB ADDS 3RD. SUPER PRO CAR TOO TEAM , VETERAN HENRY KULWARTIN TO DRIVE: MAY 3/2013
Some more good news, about new cars this week as Willy Katib has added the third car to his team, with the acquisition of a new Camaro Super Pro car that will be piloted by former drag racer Henry Kulwartin. Willy who has long been a great supporter of Luskville Dragway has been a two car team for a number of years now with John Forsyth piloting the wild wheel standing Malibu that runs out of the Willy's Alignment shop as well as Willy's own ride a rear engine Undercover dragster. Henry Kulwartin was at one time one of the top runners at Luskville Dragway, back in the early days and was one of the original drag racers from this area. The "Taxi Man" was probably most famous for his wheel standing Dart Swinger from the 80's.  Henry has long been a good friend of Willy's and when talks started about the possibility of a ride Henry was grinning from ear too ear, with the thoughts of getting back behind the wheel. The car was brought home just this past weekend from Southern Ontario and it will be completely gone over before hitting the track. Power for this ride will come from a D&D Performance like all of the cars out of this stable. So once again things getting exciting as we move towards the opening weekend May 18-19
NAPA AUTO PARTS SPRING FUNNY CAR NATIONALS JUST AROUND THE CORNER: MAY 3/2013
Now that we are open we can start talking about some big shows that are just around the corner and will be upon us in no time at all. The first big show of the season will see Nostalgia Funny Cars coming too town for the Napa Auto Parts Spring Funny Car Nationals on June 15-16th of 2013. This year will be very special as for the first time in Luskville Dragway's history one of the most famous of all Top Alcohol Funny Cars "Tweety's Rat" will be one of the cars coming to town. This is a car that goes back to the early days of funny cars, when these cars where packing grandstands all over the country. With the tremendous interest in the Nostalgia area of our sport, has once again made this Funny car one of the most popular ones out there, and will certainly be a crowd favourite when it comes to the 1320 nearest you Luskville Dragway. The Napa Spring Funny Car Nationals will take place over two days with a full program of racing both Saturday and Sunday and a cruise night Saturday Night. This will be our first big show with a feature attraction and with the middle of June upon us should give us great warm weather, so keep in mind that camping is free with paid admission.
SUDBURY RACER SHAWN OLIVER IS ANXIOUS TO GET THE SEASON GOING: MAY 3/2013
We have often talked about how quickly the drag racers from the North have become such good racers over the years, but they have also become pretty good builders and  tuners as well as this story will quickly point out. Back in 1995 when we did our fist airport race up north in Earleton, it was only southern and eastern Ontario drivers in the winners circle, but as we went on to produce races at the airports in Kirkland Lake, Elliot Lake, North Bay, Maniwaki and Wawa the Northern racing crowd grew and got much, much better. It wasn't long before names like Bill Harling, Rock Beaudion, Pete Gilchrist and Shawn Oliver made their way too winners circle and for some on many occasions.  For some driving and winning wasn't enough as they got more and more involved with building and tuning, and so goes this story which is much like the Bill Harling story of earlier this year. Shawn who is a regular on the Napa Tour and a frequent visitor to Luskville Dragway over the course of a season has completely rebuilt his Dodge Semi Pro Truck and from the pictures has done an amazing job in doing so. Shawn did all the work himself, much like Bill Harling with a complete round tube chassis now sitting under the car, and as you can see sitting much much lower too the ground. Shawn does plan on continuing in Semi Pro for the time being but does plan too move too Super Pro in the future. Congratulations to Mr. Oliver who by all accounts and certainly by the pictures has done a very nice job. Shawn has indicated that if all goes well he will be at Luskville Dragway for the Opening weekend May 18-19 see you then, and we would like to remind any of the Northern drivers who are planning on coming the track will be open on Friday for parking.
