CAN-AM STOCK/SUPER STOCK SERIES JOINS THE GRAND BEND PARTY: JAN 30/10

We often brag about the success of the Benson Auto Parts Tour, but we are not the only drag racing success story that has happened in Canada over the last little while. Fred Smith's Can-Am Stock-Super Stock Series is also another one of those very successful series that has seen considerable involvement and success since its conception.
Stock and Super Stock cars have long been a main stay of national event, and divisional races within NHRA and IHRA, back in the days of the Molson Grand Nationals it was nothing to see over 100 of these cars competing on Canadian soil, and many of them Canadians. And Canadians did their fare share of winning also and one of those drivers who did some of that winning as well as building many of the cars that did win was Fred Smith. Along with other stand out Canadian Super Stock drivers like Ollie Stephan and Wally Clark who today compete in the Can Am Series.  However with the demise of National and Divisional events in Eastern Canada, Maple Leaf racers who where Stock and Super Stock drivers had to travel south of the border to do any of that type of racing. So the birth of Can Am Stock Super Stock Series was only a natural thing, thanks to the organization of Fred Smith and a few of his fellow class racers. Today the series boasts close to 40 members and runs series events mostly in Southern Ontario with a number of US based teams also playing a part in the success of this type of racing. Many of us racers who grew up watching Stock and Super Stock drivers in the early days, may have just gone that route had enough events of that type continued in this country, so the birth of this series is not only good for drag racing but also good for choice for today's drivers. Of course the big attraction for the Stock and Super Stock Cars besides they look very much like what we can and do drive on the street, but also the huge wheel stands these cars typically make every time they leave the starting line. So with that introduction as a back drop we are extremely pleased to announce that the Cam-Am Stock Super Stock Series will be part of the Benson Auto Parts Tour event that will be held at Grand Bend Motorplex on June 11-12-13. The addition of this series with what was already a huge success story in 2009 should make for just that much more assurance that this years Endeavour will have even a better opportunity of out doing last years event.
FAST EDDIE RACE WEAR THE OFFICIAL CLOTHING SUPPLIER FOR LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY: JAN 30/10
For more years than I can remember now, Fast Eddie Race Wear has been supplying Luskville Dragway and ADM Motorsports with the finest clothing and apparel that you can imagine. Now don't get me wrong we are not the only race track or race team in Canada or the US that counts on this company for all their clothing stuff, and in particular race related stuff. Tony Paton the brother of Canadian Top Fuel driver Todd Paton has a pretty good handle on what sells as far as t-shirts and hats at race tracks and because of that have the majority of the race tracks in the country buying from them. But its not just race track stuff, as Fast Eddie sells race team apparel as well as Simpson Safety equipment products. Fast Eddie has an in house design artist who can walk you through the design work behind your new race team t-shirt or race track t-shirt. Because of Tony's extensive drag racing back ground he too can assist greatly in the purchase of safety equipment for your drag racing needs. The Paton Family have a long history with Luskville Dragway which began in the early days of our operations when they lived in Nova Scotia and quite often would make our track their first alcohol Funny Car Match race every spring. The Paton Family too this day are very active in Drag Racing and are at race tracks almost every weekend which also gives Tony the asset of seeing what is selling and what is not when it comes to these type of products.

Could it be that some one has already "Tapped" into the great deal on Russell Adams S&W rear engine dragster, stay tuned apparently  someone was already over having a serious look. For sure it would be great if all the cars that are for sale would end up staying right here in the Ottawa area, and there are some great deals available right now.

Former Luskville Dragway Junior Dragster Track Champion Michael Reynolds attended the NHRA awards banquet in Hershey, Pennsylvania this past weekend. Reynolds was crowned the 2009 NHRA 15 year old Champion quite a feat for this young man who cut his teeth and grew up racing at Luskville Dragway. Seen in this photo with NHRA Division 1 Director Bob Lang Mickey" as he used to be known seems to have just out grown that nick name. Along with the Wally Michael was presented with a custom leather jacket, US Savings bonds and a 2010 NHRA Gold Card. Reynolds plans on competing at the NHRA Junior Dragster Championships in July in Bristol, Tennessee and then the search for a used 4-Link rear engine dragster begins, of course if anyone needs a driver before then , he is available.!!!

Hey guys and gals, dong something with your race car or team this year let us know so we can let everyone else know. If you have signed a new advertiser there is no better time or place to get them some coverage than right here, right now.

W.O. STINSON AND SONS INCREASES SUPPORT AT LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY: JAN 23/2010
Yes you have heard us say it many times but we believe we can never say it enough, we are very, very fortunate to have the advertising support that we have at Luskville Dragway. That support once again came to the for front as W.O. Stinson & Sons have not only renewed their support for Luskville Dragway but have promised a much larger involvement and a much more active involvement with this areas NHRA Drag Strip. John Armstrong has long been a tremendous supporter of local Motorsports as the motorsports marketing director for W.O. Stinson's and his commitment and excitement for the 2010 season is addictive to say the least. The involvement of this area's most successful fuel oil, propane, oil, home heating and gas station company will be good news for everyone involved at Luskville Dragway. This will make W.O Stinson the official fuel and oil company for Luskville Dragway and the Benson Tour. Racing Fuel will once again be available through W.O. Stinson which will include pure racing methanol, a product that many of the teams use, and should be using only the pure racing  methanol and not some of cheaper dry cleaning stuff that is around. Pro Racing Fuels will also once again be available through W.O Stinson's and for years now has been the fuel of almost every drag racer in this area as well as others. We will have more say on the involvement of Pro in the weeks ahead, but teams can be assured that this product will also be available. Just a quick note to all race teams, W.O.Stinson delivers to Luskville Dragway each and every week, and you can have what ever product you require delivered right too the track and pick it up there, you don't even have to drive out too W.O. Stinson's to pick it up. A number of Super Pro drivers, Carl Jessup, Kyle Jessup, Steve Way and Rock Beaudion currently take advantage of this racer friendly program. Once again we want to point out the importance of supporting those that support us, and we encourage everyone to do just that when it comes to your fuel and oil needs. John Armstrong also pointed out that they will continue to support a number of regular competitors at Luskville Dragway as well as the tremendous support they have shown for Luskville Dragway as a whole.

TOP ET, TO BE A PART OF LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY'S 2010 EVERY WEEK PROGRAM: JAN 23/10
One of the new programs that was tried at Luskville Dragway in 2009 and was met with tremendous acceptance and approval was the new TOP ET program for door cars. We are very happy to announce that it will be part of every race day in 2010, and possibly some of the Benson Tour Events. The program which is for door cars only, was instituted in an effort to give racers another reason for running a door car, in wake of the large movement of drivers too dragsters over the last number of years. The program works pretty simple, drivers with door cars pay an extra amount (insurance) when they come through the gate and if they are beat in the first, second or third round of regular eliminations they automatically move too the Top ET class for first round. Only those drivers that have paid the insurance on the entree and only those that have gone out of the regular program by the third round qualify. All of the money collected by the insurance add-on goes into the pot with all of it going back too the racers. The track will also put a amount into each purse as a base amount, to be determined on event and advertisers support. But with the program being run two times only in 2009 and the purse being over $500 and over $1000. each time I think it is safe to say that it will most times be a significant amount each time. We believe and hope that this is beneficial to the door car contingent of drivers and hope it shows those teams that we do think the success of door cars and the continued growth of door cars is in everyone's best interest. We are also hoping that we may even be able to come up with a advertiser who would be interested in putting up a points championship purse as well and will work hard on that through out the winter.

Even though where about a week late we want to congratulate Matt and Anouk Maxsom on the addition too their race team on January 3rd. Maverick (you had too know it would have something to do with a Ford) Maxsom will no doubt have a FORD t-shirt before you can shake a stick so too speak. But from all us at Luskville Dragway congrats guys, now I wonder what his first race car will be ( lets see maybe a Maverick??).
*We apologize for the delay for publishing, had my lap top crash the first week in Florida and have just got it back up and running thanks to son-in-law Jason, who is a genius when it comes to these things. So hopefully that will be it for trouble and we can keep everyone updated on schedule.

D&D PERFORMANCE TOO BE A MAJOR ADVERTISER ONCE AGAIN IN 2010: JAN 16/10
When I think back to the first days of running Luskville Dragway I obviously think very large of those business's that signed on back in 1980 when really nobody had a clue who we where, or where we had come from. Advertising support back in the early days was crucial in what we believed was necessary to move Luskville Dragway forward and one of those companies was D&D Performance of Chesterville, Ontario. Rolly Doucet and Eddy DeCooman had long been involved with Luskville Dragway as competitors, as they among a number of people still involved with us where some of the first racers to ever go down the quarter mile back in 1969-1970. Then based out of a Gatineau gas station and service centre, even back then many racers where coming to this couple for work and information for their drag racing and street performance. As drag racing began to be even more popular and the numbers of customers even larger the boys moved to Chesterville, Ontario just outside of Ottawa and started doing even more business with the drag racing community. Through all these years Rolly and Eddy also continued to race competitively with any thing they could get their hands on including a record holding Buick Stocker. Rolly actually was driving right up until few years ago, last stint behind the wheel of Rick and Derek Atwill Top Sportsman Camaro, and has indicated he would like very much to get back behind the wheel once again (who knows).
Their shop in Chesterville today is much different that the early days, as the expansion and additions have gone on to where today they have one of the most sophisticated, high tech, dyno tuned engine shop's in Canada. And that is evident when you look at the list of drag racers that rare using D&D Performance for power, teams like ADM Motorsports drivers Derek Malcolm, Troy Davis and Dave Silkier, independents Darren Frasso, Russell Adams, new comer Julie Dube (pictured on cover), Al and Becky Ray, and the list goes on and on.

"AMP" NOW THE OFFICIAL ENERGY DRINK OF LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY: JAN 16/09
You have heard us mention natural fits over the years if you have been reading these news pages, well this one is as natural a fit as you can get. Amp Energy Drink is now the official Energy Drink of Luskville Dragway. Replacing Monster will be a monster job for sure but there is no questions that AMP will certainly do what it takes to that and more. Amp is of course the Main Advertiser on the side of Dale Earnhardt's race car and has made a significant impact in the Energy Drink market by doing so. Dale Earnhardt is with out question one of the most popular Nascar drivers of all time and has a following like no one else. This alone gives us the upper hand in turning the page and moving to Amp as the official energy drink of Luskville Dragway. Look for special promotions through the year surrounding Amp as we do our best to get everyone to try it, which is all we believe it will take to make them supporters. We are extremely excited about the new addition of Amp as a advertiser with us and we hope that you the supporter of Luskville Dragway will become a supporter of AMP energy drink also, See you at the races.

Well guys Russ Adams who was the big winner of the new dragster on New Years Day is already making plans for this spring and the new car. Russ is having a number of trick items added to the car that did not come with it, and will have it painted down there also so when it comes back in late March early April he will just add his motor and trans and go racing. Russ hopes to paint the car very much like the one posted too the right here, with maybe a little more yellow on it, and of course the ADAMS PLUMBING logo.  By the way he will have to take his motor and trans out of the old S&W car as it was freshened by D&D and already put in to go racing, oh well.
*Rumor has it there is a number of people looking for dragsters so could be that we will also have a number of new competitors in super pro again this season. One driver is a current door slammer driver, and a couple of names being floated around come from the jr. dragster ranks, only time will tell.
*Look for a big announcement surrounding the Grand Bend Tour race as we continue to add programs too this event. This will excite all you true blue drag racing fans as we are close to the addition of Stock and Super Stock to the event. There will also be plenty more too say about the first series race of the year as the winter goes on so stay tuned.

Dan Couturier is the owner of Apple Auto Glass on Gladstone Ave. in Ottawa, and he just happens to be what many of us call a car guy. And you might say Dan comes from a car guy family, as his Dad use to do some drag racing at Luskville Dragway back in the early days. In fact Dan is restoring the original Firebird that is Father use to race many years ago. However most of his time these days is spend operating a very successful Auto Glass Repair and Auto Accessories Shop at 474 Gladstone Ave. in Ottawa and raising his brand new family. Apple Auto Glass has fast become the place to go if you need any type of Automotive Glass repair and especially if it happens to be what we call “one of your toys”. Its always nice when someone sends a picture from the past, and even nicer for me when it is a picture from my drag racing days back in the late 70's. Tim Hughes son of "Big Daddy Rat" Ed Hughes and someone who still too this day is out at the races taking pictures of drag cars. This is a picture from the former Mohawk Dragway just outside of Desoronto, Ontario. Tim caught our 67 Chevy II going up against Jim Barkley and his 1969 Road Runner called the "Outlaw". The little Chevy II we campaigned back then was powered by a small block West Carleton Automotive prepared Chevy (big blocks were not in style yet back then. Yes things where certainly different back then but we all enjoyed drag racing just as much as today's racers, even though we didn't have the high tech cars they do today.

*Latest pic on Frank Mark Jrs. new dragster was just send too us, so we thought we would pass it along too everyone, car is a real eye catcher to say the least. Paint was applied by the same people who did Paulo Guist's new Top Dragster that is also a real eye appealing race car. Word has it that maybe Jr. will see some seat time up here at Luskville Dragway prior to the pending début at Grand Bend Motorplex and the first Benson Tour event.

Well folks this is the last publish from the great white north for a while as the next one will come from Florida, as we hook up with some other racers in the sunny south this week. Stock car racer John and Debbie Holtom, drag racers John & Bev Adams, drag racers John and Shelia Brooks and ourselves stay in the same park down south. Yes we will be bringing you some reports from down south, as well as updating everyone on everything that is going on with Luskville Dragway and the Benson Tour for 2010. There will be some exciting announcements surrounding both Luskville Dragway and the tour so stay tuned, we hope to take in the first IHRA event and its new format in January at West Palm Beach Dragway.

RUSS ADAMS HAS CHRISTMAS COME TWICE: JAN 01/08
While many of us where quite happy to have the jolly old fat man come once a year, one of our regular drag racers was lucky enough to have Santa stop at his house two times, as this year wound down. Yes, Russ Adams not only had Christmas at his house on the 25th, but on New Years Day Russ was informed that he had just won a brand new 2010 American Swing Arm rear engine dragster. Russ had bought a ticket on the car back in the summer with the knowledge on new years eve that he had been one of the
five finalists drawn for the big draw first thing new years morning. Well the good new came fast and was all over the drag racing internets everywhere that Canadian, and regular Luskville Dragway Super Pro racer Russ Adams of Ottawa was the winner, WOW. Russ who currently campaigns a S&W Soft Tail Dragster was excited to say the least, as he had been thinking of buying a new car in the not too distant future, which he may not have too do at all now. The contest was run on THIS IS BRACKET RACING web site owned by Luke Bogacki who is a big time high dollar racer himself. Many of us have always been skeptical about these contests but this reaffirms that they are legitimate and certainly will make more of us buy tickets in the future. Russ is not sure what he plans on doing with the car, as in the back of his mind his plans was to build a new RaceTech Dragster like the one being built for Frank Mark Jr. Russ has already had one competitor make him an offer to purchase and Russ will feel this out before he makes any decisions. No matter how you look at it though, Russ not only believes in buying tickets but he believes in the fat man coming also.

2009 BENSON SEMI PRO CHAMP PREPARING TO DEFEND TITLE: JAN 01/10
2009 Benson Semi Pro Champ Ron Smith is not sitting  by waiting for the defense of his title of Champ at Luskville Dragway. No Ron has been busy since the season ended getting his 1970 Cuda ready for what will probably be another hard fought season of Semi Pro Racing at the local NHRA Track located in Luskville, Quebec. Smith who is one of the faster Semi Pro cars as well as one of those that takes many back to the early days of Drag Racing with its very Nostalgia Look too it. Yes the first thing was for the motor to come out and head back to West Carleton Automotive where Larry Aslagsen will massage the big block 440 into a fresh start for 2009. Next was the Fireball Performance Transmission to head down the road to Doug Miller in Williamsburg, Ontario where he too will do his thing to make sure Ron has a fresh, reliable and winning Trans to defend that Title. Not only is this story to point out the preparation that this racer takes in getting ready for racing in the upcoming season, but also how he supports those that support the track but using those companies that do. Ron Smith

SOME NEW JET CARS MAKING THEIR WAY TO LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY IN 2010: JAN 01/10
One of the jobs that has gotten harder over the years is finding new show cars to bring in for our major shows at Luskville Dragway. Jet Cars, which have long been the best attraction for any small drag strip have shrunk in numbers over the years do too many different reasons. Crashes and drivers hanging up their gloves have both played a part in the  depletion of the numbers of jet car drivers too choose from. So to say we are pleased when a couple of new cars come on the scene would be a understatement for sure, and that's just what has happened this off season. Two new cars have become available and Luskville Dragway has been fortunate enough to get both of these cars booked in for the upcoming 2010 racing season. One of the cars the Space Machine has actually been too Luskville Dragway a few times when it was owned by Ernie Bogue (Blast from the Past car). The other jet car is really kind of unique as it is a 1970 Ford Mustang bodied car called the Cobra, a reflection of the high performance Cobra Jet Mustang that was so popular back in the early days of high performance cars. Both of these cars will bring a new look to the cars that will invade Luskville Dragway and some of the events on the Benson Tour. We are also very pleased to announce that one of favorite and most popular cars and driver will return for a number of visits with us in 2010 as Diamond Jim has signed on as the house car for Luskville Dragway in 2010. Our first jet car show in June 26-27 as Luskville Dragway presents the Benson Auto Parts Spring Jet Car Nationals.
