DRIVERS MEETING AND CAR SHOW APRIL 19th. BENSON AUTO PARTS BELLS CORNERS
ELLIOT LAKE TOUR DATES CONFIRMED JULY 18-19-20

SFI LIST GETTING FULL, MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON FOR APRIL 19TH.

BITS FROM THE PITS" INDICATIONS ARE THINGS ARE VERY UPBEAT FOR 2008:
*With the drivers meeting just around the corner some indications are that we could be in for a big summer, over 1 dozen cars have registered to have their chassis's SFIied by NHRA at the April 19th function. That is just the numbers registered to date with more calling on a fairly regular basis, which makes this certification the largest one ever for this area. Hopefully this is a sing that many teams plan on competing this season, and that has always been the case in the past. With this many drivers and car owners being concerned about the chassis sticker, it normally means they plan on doing some serious racing. And with all the big dollar prize money that is available its easy to understand that just maybe this will be the BIG YEAR. Remember now April 19th, first certification takes place a 10:00am, car show, charity Bar-B-Que and of course drivers meeting at 1:00 pm. We hope that everyone comes out, all drivers no matter what class's, super pro, semi pro, street cars, jrs. bikes and sleds and of course anyone who wants to find out more about what is happening this season.
* Matt Maxum is another racer who cant wait for the season to start even though he's been hard at work signing advertisers to help with chase for the championship, here is the latest from Matt.
Just wanted to say Hi  & let everyone know that Jason Hynes Construction & Paving will be a part of M&M Motorsports push for the points for the second year in a row. Their company does any size job from Grading to Paving and is a very valued advertising partner for M&M Motorsports. I am also working on 3 other large advertisers  whom 1 or all will be a team partner before the season gets under way.
LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY AND THE BENSON TOUR CONTINUE TO LEAD THE WAY WHEN IT COMES TO BIG DOLLAR BRACKET EVENTS:
At a time when other tracks are cutting or discontinuing their big dollar bracket events in Canada, Luskville Dragway and in particular the “BENSON TOUR” not only continue to do so, but have expanded them. Yes Luskville Dragway was the first to pay big dollar payouts for bracket racers and as we head into the 29 addition of that event things have not only got better, they have got a whole lot better. As of right now, and we can tell you very clearly  of some extra payouts and there are some additional announcement coming soon.  Luskville Dragway and the Benson Tour will have “FIVE” $10,000. to win Super Pro Bracket events, (and there will be more) scheduled right now. The big dollar events will begin at North Bay, and the first stop on the Benson Tour where both Saturday and Sunday will feature a $10,000. to win Super Pro Payout. The series will then head to St. Thomas, Ontario where as of right now! Sunday will feature a $10,000. to win Super Pro First place prize money, (more to come on this event).  The next confirmed round of $10,000. first place money payouts for super pro will then come at Luskville Dragway for the grand daddy of all bracket races the Bracket Bonanza, where both Saturday and Sunday will once again see $10,000 paid out to the winners of Super Pro. So yes the track and the series that brought you big dollar bracket racing is not moving away from that as other tracks have decided to do, yet we are moving towards a full series that will see $10,000. per day per event for super pro, and with the announcements that are yet to come, we are going to be awfully close.
OTTAWA SUN BACKS BRACKET BONANZA ONCE AGAIN: And on the heels of that comes the announcement that the Ottawa Sun will once again back the oldest and richest bracket race in Canada, the 29th Annual Ottawa Sun Bracket Bonanza. The event that started big dollar bracket racing in Canada continues to be steadfast and traditional as it heads into its 29th year of existence. And it will do so with the backing of the Ottawa Sun News Paper once again, support that has greatly assisted in the continued growth of this event. The Ottawa Sun Bracket Bonanza will take place on the very traditional long weekend in August, August 1-2-3. The event will carry first place prize money of $10,000. each day for Super Pro, and $2000. and $5000 for Semi Pro. The weekend will also feature all of the extra activities that it has become famous for, fireworks, a huge racers bar-b-que and live bands. The race attracts the very best of drag racers from all over Quebec and Ontario as well as some of the very best drivers from the US. The event is also special in the fact that the winners are also awarded the famous NHRA Wally Trophy as the race is also part of the National Dragster Challenge Program that NHRA puts forth. All in all the Bracket Bonanza is not only the Grand Daddy of Big Dollar Bracket racing but it still continues to lead the way into the future with its stead fast prize money’s.
SLEDS AND BIKES TO BE PART OF 2008 99RACE SERIES: MAR. 29/08
When we started the Benson Tour (formerly the Show Me the Money Tour) ten years ago drag sleds made up a portion of the season ending point’s fund. In the beginning the growth of the sled program justified that and things looked very good. However during the 2005-2006 seasons the participation dropped considerably, too the point where the points fund championship was ended. We did continue to run sleds at all “Tour” events and last year the turnout seemed to be back on a up swing, so much so that a number of drivers suggested that we reinstate the championship run. All of our events have also run drag bikes and that too has seen more and more competitors entering and running at the races. Many of these drivers have always asked why they where not included in the series and we had hoped at one time or another to do so. Many other tracks such as Shannonville, St.Thomas to name a few currently run sleds and bikes in one class, in order to assure they have enough entrée’s to assure a good class. So beginning in 2008 the 99RACE SERIES will include Sleds/Bikes as one group of entrée’s and they will have a season ending points fund with prize money, trophies and jackets. So this means that on Aug 1-2-3 and Aug 29-30-31 the Bike/Sled class will run at Luskville Dragway with a full payout. This is as we have talked about on numerous occasions another evolution in our sport. We have tired to run these two classes separately but have not been able to have enough entrée’s so in the past, so hopefully this will make the difference and give another solid class like super pro and semi pro. This will be the case at Luskville Dragway as well as we slowly rebuild our bike ranks thanks to the efforts of  Dan @Apple Auto Glass, Jon Chen at Hybrid Racing, and Derek Kelly a former track champion. It is crucial that we see some of this crowd at the drivers meeting for Luskville Dragway on April 19th. so we can set out a schedule that works for all concerned.

GAINESVILLE AFTER 20 YEARS, DRAG RACING IS GROWING: MARCH 22/08
Well I hope I have not bored our readers with these stories from the South, on our racing trips on this years winter vacation, but hopefully they have been a little informative at least. This week we had the pleasure of taking in the 29th Annual Gator Nationals at Gainesville Raceway in Florida. Now this  was one of the first ever National Events that we had been too in the earlier years,  besides Montreal, (which was no comparison to any US based National Event) The Gators was our first taste of what back then was big time drag racing. Well that was 1986, and WHOW have things changed, and I believe NHRA Drag Racing has come a LONG, LONG way, and as we are always comparing it to Nascar, this was the first time I have actually felt that we are much closer than any time in our past. The improvements and expansion of the track, the pits, the parking lots and everything else would be a whole story in itself. But it was also other things, the tail gate parties that where going on in the parking FIELDS where greater than anything I have every seen, and that of course was partially because the place was PACKED. The pro pits, which thankfully unlike NASCAR you are still welcomed into, where HUGE with Pro Stocks and Pro Mods being pitted almost at the end of the shut down, well you get the idea. The new tower was spectacular as was the expanded grandstands and other improvements, the whole atmosphere was more NASCAR feeling, with more and more displays everywhere, and more and more NEW advertisers involved. Hey how about DUNKIN DONUTS, not only with there name on a car but a whole flipping 48 foot trailer donut/coffee shop, right there in the middle of the pits. A Ford Motorcraft Fast Lube with a full tilt tire changing competition set up, and many, many more. It was not quite as big as the Daytona Displays, but man was it close.
Now another very interesting and exciting aspect to the Gators this year was the number of European Teams that where there making NHRA drag racing truly international. This included the #1 European Top Fuel Team which shipped their entire top fuel operation over, truck and car, yes not truck and trailer, Truck (see pic). There were also about 4 Pro Stock cars from over seas as well as one from Aruba, and lots of Canadian Sportsman cars, that you won’t see at a NASCAR event. The one thing you can certainly see coming is changes with in the sportsman ranks, they have slightly, no super stock at this years Gators, but there is just so many sportsman cars who all have top fuel like towing units, they have no room for them. Keep in mind Time trials are Thursday, with no spectators and first round is Friday Morning at 7:30 (still no spectators). But the facilities are just not big enough and with the pro teams getting bigger in numbers and bigger in space required to set up in, the tracks are just not big enough. Lets face it, Nascar doesn’t have 12 class’s of cars racing on what they call Race Day (tv day) and NHRA cant either if they expect to get bigger and better television coverage, which is what they and are whole sport (including us small tracks) need, to take the next big step. But this event this year was a eye opener, with all the negative things that have being said about the economy, one thing I can say and say with confidence, NHRA DRAG RACING is alive and well and living all over North America. And this bodes well for all of us in the sport of Drag Racing, we have said in earlier write ups that we felt this would be a coming out year so to speak, if Gainesville was nay example of the state of drag racing its looking GOOD.

GATINEAU, QUEBEC’S AUTOXTREME MAKES IT FOUR YEARS IN A ROW: MAR. 22/08
Over the last decade or so it seemed like everyone wanted to own a high performance Speed Shop, with the Fast and the Furious craze taking off like wild in the 90’s, it seemed like the thing to do. However many of those that thought it looked simple, and would be an easy way to make a living quickly found out other wise. And many of them have gone as fast as they came, and that was to nobody’s surprise, as anything that looks that easy usually means it isn’t. But one of those that went into it with a little different attitude was the AutoXtreme boys in Gatineau, they took a hard look at what was to be done, and new they would have to approach it a little different, and they would have to work at it a lot harder than anyone else. The other approach they took was they where not just going to concentrate on High Performance and would take on regular automotive repairs as well as the high end stuff. Also add to this equation the fact that Mark is a avid high performance individual who spends a lot of time testing what he does right at Luskville Dragway, prior to offering it to his customers and you can see some of the reasons why this business has made it work, and work well. Specializing in VW’s and Audi’s also has allowed them to cut a mark in the market of this type of car, and again many times utilizing the Dragway to make sure what they do is working the way it is suppose too.  And of course we like to think and do believe that their involvement with Luskville Dragway by way of signage and title rights to a cruise night also plays a part in their success, and they believe that also as they have once again resigned for another year of advertising with the track. So as we head into 2008 one of those shops that came along in the mid nineties when that was the craze is sill around and doing well which obviously indicates they are doing more than one thing right.

SPRING HAS SPRUNG, ROCHON BUYS NEW RIDE: MARCH  22/08
Well guys I know you probably think I’m crazy if you look outside and see all the snow on the ground and here me saying “spring has sprung’. But in our business spring is gauged in a different manner, either the smell of burning rubber, or the announcement of someone buying a new drag car. Well Jon Rochon has made us all feel a little more like spring had sprung this week with the announcement that he has purchased a new “DOOR CAR’ drag car for the 2008 campaign. This is our first official new car announcement since the barrage of new dragsters that where bought last fall, and couldn’t have come at a better time as everyone is starting to feel the winter blues. Rochon, who has always been a tough competitor with his old ride, should and will be even tougher with new tube chassis firebird car that is set to go for 2008. Jon has indicated that he will be more visible this season after a couple of years of part time racing duo to the purchase of a new home east of Ottawa. In fact Rochon has hinted that he may be part of the Benson Tour and for sure the 99RACE series which will focus on four events in this area, Luskville, Shannonville, and North Bay. There is even more good news to this story as Jon has sold his former Camaro to Semi Pro racer Joe Villeneuve from North Bay, Joe is of course regular on the Benson Tour. Villeneuve has not decided as of this writing of whether he will stay in Semi Pro for this season or jump to Super Pro right away, but one thing is for sure he is heading to the super pro ranks at one time or another. The other good thing about this announcement is the fact that it is the purchase of a new Door Car, which of late has not come often enough, hopefully this is a sign of the times, but one thing for sure it is a sign of SPRING. Attention drivers don’t forget Drivers Meeting April 19th at Benson Auto in Bells Corners, also need to here from you if you need your car SFIied.

QUAD SERIES BECOMES 99RACE SERIES FOR 2008, DATES ANNOUNCED: MARCH 15/08
Four events have signed on to be part of what was last years Quad Royal Series, keeping the number four as significant connection to what began in 2007 as a four race series. One of those stops is new for this year and the name of the series has been changed to reflect that change. The new “99RACE SERIES” will be the new title for what was called The Quad Royal last year, and new stop for 2008 will be North Bay on June 20-21-22. There will be some changes in the points fund also, as moneys will be moved around to bring the series more in line with the number of stops and the traveling involved, meaning that it will be worth your while to travel and compete. Last years two point’s champions have both indicated that they will do just that to defend their 2007 titles. Daryl Jensen who was the Semi Pro Champion and Derek Malcolm who was the Super Pro Champion have both signed on for the 2008 tour, but there is no doubt that the 2008 competition will be that much more fierce as the series takes on this new growth. The 99RACE SERIES will encompass the events at North Bay June 20-21-22, Luskville Dragway Aug 1-2-3, Luskville Dragway Aug 29-30-31 and Shannonville Dragway Sept 12-13-14. These events are all part of the Benson Tour also which means that by running these races and adding in Elliot Lake and St.Thomas you qualify for both series which puts you in line for the richest Motorsports points fund in Canada. Where can we go from here, well I think the points fund put forward by these programs, thanks to the tremendous support of Benson Auto Parts indicates that the sky is the limit, remember support those that make it possible. The renaming of the series to 99RACE is also significant as this is the program that makes it possible for drivers to DOUBLE their points money by just using 99RACE on their invoice’s when ever purchasing anything from Benson Auto Parts, or any of the other business’s owned by Benson Auto Parts.

APPLE AUTO GLASS GLADSTONE RENEWS FOR 2008: MARCH 15/08
Dan Couturier is the owner of Apple Auto Glass on Gladstone Ave. in Ottawa, and he just happens to be what many of us call a car guy. And you might say Dan comes from a car guy family, as his Dad use to do some drag racing at Luskville Dragway back in the early days. In fact Dan is restoring the original Firebird that is Father use to race many years ago. However most of his time these days is spend operating a very successful Auto Glass Repair and Auto Accessories Shop at 474 Gladstone Ave. in Ottawa and raising his brand new family. Apple Auto Glass has fast become the place to go if you need any type of Automotive Glass repair and especially if it happens to be what we call “one of your toys”. Dan prides himself not just on his superior craftsmanship, but also on his painstaking effort to treat every customer’s car as if it was his own. That over and above effort has established this shop as the place to go for your Automotive Glass repairs or enhancements. Dan will have the title rights to one of Luskville
Dragway’s very popular cruise nights this up coming season, as well as large control tower signage. Apple Auto Glass is also one of those successful businesses’s that doesn’t just stop at his support for Motorsports in this area with just the race tracks. Dan is also an advertising supporter of Hybrid Racing, a motorcycle drag racing team out of Ottawa lead by Jon Chen who holds the track record at Luskville Dragway as the fastest Street Motorcycle every. So with out question this is a individual who once you meet you will fully understand what we are talking about, and if you ever have to have any glass work done you will be more than pleased. Apple Auto Glass, 474 Gladstone Ave. Ottawa, call Dan Couturier at 613-563-4995. Let the “Apple Guy” take acre of your toys or any regular automotive glass repairs.

IF YOU LIKE PRO MODS, THEN WOULD HAVE LOVED VALDOSTA, GEORGIA: MARCH 15/08
For as long as I have been involved with Drag Racing, getting your fix in the winter time if you lived on the east coast meant going to Gainesville, Florida and the NHRA running of the Gator Nationals. And believe it or not to some extent that is still the case, and for many drag racing people a trek to the south in the winter time still does mean Gainesville, and with snow never looking like it is going to stop, this year the exodus will certainly be greater than ever. But if you are a true lover of door slammer’s, and if you like Pro Mod’s, and Pro Stock cars then you should put South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta, Georgia on your list, “you will love it. How does over 100 NHRA and IHRA Pro Mod’s, and Pro Stocks sound plus throw in a whack of 10” outlaw cars, well you get the picture, its crazy. You see a number of years ago, after they build one of the slickest, all concrete drag strips just out side Valdosta, and after people like Warren Johnson started going there to test because it was better than any National Event track out there, it wasn’t long before more and more started to come the week before the Gators, just to do that. Well pretty soon the thing had taken on a life of its own and so many where now coming to test that it was decided too throw on a Chicago style shootout, and lets let any Nitro Car that wants to come, come, well you get the picture. This is also the place you will see many new cars long before they go any where, which this year included Mike Moran twin turbo 2010 Camaro. For the true diehard racing fan it does not get much better that this, and 2008 was the best yet. What is also nice about this event if you happen to be a Canadian, there is lots of them down there testing, Larry Sinke, Ray Commisio, Carl Speiring, Rob Atchison, Tony Panoe, Tony Pontaeri, Larry O’Brien,so for us it is always a chance to catch up with some old friends.

ANOTHER DRAG RACER ESCAPING THE WINTER BLUES: MARCH 15/08
I certainly wont have to tell any of you that this has been a long, rotten winter and even more so if you are a racer, or a fan of the sport. So for some, getting away in the winter time is a must and this year even more so, and if you are a racer, or fan then heading south in March also means taking in some of the racing that is available. Ralph Coe, one of the outstanding semi pro drivers that follows the Benson Tour, as well as the regular program at Luskville Dragway, was one of those lucky soles that did just that. However, besides taking in NHRA Gator Nationals, in Gainesville and the NASCAR race in Bristol, Ralph also took his love of speed to a whole new level, when he took a ride on a very fast air boat in the Florida everglades. Ralph certainly looks like he is enjoying himself, not sure if it was because there was no helmet or the fact that refreshment’s where at hand. Ralph says he had a blast but cant wait for spring and the real racing season starting back home, where he can really fill his need for speed. Ralph said he would be part of everything this year starting with the Drivers Meeting at Benson Auto Parts in Bells Corners, Saturday April 19th.

D&D PERFORMANCE WILL ONCE AGAIN SUPPORT LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY AND THE TOUR: MARCH 8, 08
One of this area's leading Machine Shops and Engine Builders has signed on to advertise with Luskville Dragway and the Benson Auto Parts Tour events for 2008. D&D Performance of Chesterville Ontario have been involved with drag racing most all of their lives and date back to pre Luskville Dragway days as competitors in the sport. Rolly Doucet and Eddy DeCooman have done something many others have not been able to also, stared partners and friends for all those years. They have also watched as the sport locally has evolved as has their engine building business to today where they have one of the most sophisticated Machine Shops in the Country. Building engines for many of this area's Drag Racers, Boat Racers and Street Car enthusiasts keeps their business very, very busy. Beginning their storied carrier in a small garage in Gatineau, Quebec they have seen many changes since the early sixties when drag strips like "Cedars Dragway" Mohawk Dragway" and Georgetown where on the radar and competitors drove their entree's to the track. And as the changes in the sport have occurred so has the business of building race engines and keeping racers competitive. The Shop located on Main St. in Chesterville, Ontario just south, east of Ottawa has changed drastically over the years as the sport itself has. These days every engine coming out of D&D Performance first makes a trip to the Dyno room where it is challenged just like it would be on the race track, everything is 100% before it leaves the shop ready to be put in the race car and raced. And Rolly and Ed also have an understanding of what its like for a racer, as they have spend many of their years not only building engines but racing cars also. In the beginning with stockers, super stockers, early modified cars and in the later days Super Comp and Brackets. So this gives them a better understanding when you discuss items with them as they have been their and done that, to this day it is not a surprise to see DeCooman at the track wrenching on a customers car. In fact in the later years as their local race car customer base has grown Ed and Rolly are seen more and more at the drag strip making sure things are going well with their customers.

ATTENTION RACE TEAMS, DO YOU NEED AN SFT INSPECTION DONE: MARCH 8, 08
As many of you drivers are aware of, all cars running specific elapsed times (quick cars 10:99 and faster) are required to have an SFI inspection sticker on your car. This is an requirement that is put forth by both sanctioning bodies, (NHRA and IHRA) however if you have an NHRA sticker IHRA will respect it, NHRA does not except IHRA inspections stickers. Not only is this a requirement but when it comes time to sell your car it is a HUGE asset to say the least, as most smart buyers will not buy anything that is not SFI stickered. So with all that being said we come to the point where we need to here from any of you that need this and who would be interested in having it done through Luskville Dragway as we are working on setting up, bringing in an NHRA inspector to do that. The date we are looking at right now is the April 19th drivers meeting date at Benson Auto Parts in Bells Corners, Ontario. This would really fit in with what we are doing that weekend with the Drivers Meeting on Saturday and then the Test and Tune Day at Luskville on April 20th. We have a couple of cars who have already shown an interest and this would make things that much more exciting for the day and would be at a time when we don’t have to worry about racing and have our cars inspected at the same time. So we really need to here from you as quickly as possible so we can get this set up in a hurry. A number of drivers have pointed out that they plan on traveling to an out of town race prior to when we normally have this done so we are working very hard to do that, but we do need to have enough cars to make it worth the time for NHRA to send an inspector here. Please contact us right away and we will put you on a list, we can probably do as many as we can get but I believe we need to have about 8 cars for sure before we can set it up. Call Derek or Arnie, or do the same by email so we can start a list of drivers requiring this done. Keep in mind your engine and transmission does not have to be in the car for this process to take place.

SUPPORT THOSE THAT SUPPORT US: MARCH, 08
I can here it now, “we have heard this already, in fact we have heard this so much that we are tired of hearing it”. Well I’m sorry, I know we have wrote about it many times, and we bring it up all the time, but no time has been more important that the current time. Why you say, well some very interesting things are going on in Motorsports in general, Cooperate America is pulling back and it’s affecting the advertising that is going on race cars and events. A number of NASCAR drivers are still with out backing for their 2008 campaign, and that was very evident if you where part of Daytona this February. Even High profile drives like Jacque Villeneuve a former Indy Car Champion and former Grand Prix Champion was and is with out any cooperate backing.  And at the recently completed NHRA Drag Racing National event in California (the kick off for the 2008 season) 25% of the Top Fuel cars in competition where doing so with out major advertising logo’s on them. Many other teams have hung up the keys because of the lack of advertising support and that is not going to get much better in the near future. Yes things are worse in the US than they are in Canada economically, but don’t forget it has always been harder in Canada for Motorsports than in the US. So now we get to the point of this very important write up, take a look at what you do, or better still what you can do to help the local advertisers who support our tracks, support our drivers, are you, are we supporting them the way we should be. It’s pretty simple, if a local engine builder, speed shop, pizza shop, (any of our advertisers) that is supporting our sport locally, and putting money back into the sport, are you-we supporting them. It’s very easy to say ah well I will just go there; everyone else will support the ones that are supporting our track, NOT, its time for everyone to take a real hard look at what we are doing.
Its pretty simple, we have promoted the wheel factor from the day we became part of the Motorsports arena in this area (over 30 years ago) and if everyone participated in it, then it things would be better than you can even imagine.
If we the customers put money in the pockets of the companies and business’s that support us, then they will put money back into the system that is supporting them. We here stories of people ordering stuff from mail order places in the US, people driving to the US to get chassis work done, People driving to Toronto or the US to get engines built. ASK YOUR SELF what do those companies do for your sport locally, are they helping keep it alive here, or are you just saving a few bucks. Thing about it, we all need to support those that support us, or after awhile there wont be any support, and if there is no support, through time there will not be any racing locally, so have we really  saved a few bucks. We don’t suggest for a minute that you pay double for anything locally, than what you can buy it for someplace else, but I don’t think that is ever going to happen, and if there is a discrepancy in prices, bring it to the local business establishments attention PLEASE.
We have tired very hard over the years to show that this system works, and it does we know that from experience, so sit down and really think about this, are you doing enough to support the local advertisers that support our racing locally. We would also like to here from you on this subject, in fact we would like to here your story if you have one on how you support those that support racing locally. Now let me say it right now, this is an article that we are going to post on both www.luskvilledragway.com as well as www.capitalcityspeedway.ca as it affects both and is important whether you’re a drag racer or stock car racer.

BENSON TOUR” BECOMES NEW NAME FOR SHOW ME THE MONEY SERIES: MARCH 1, 08'
The world and everything in it goes through some sort of change at one time or another, and the Motorsports world is no different. NASCAR has changed the name of the tour 3 times in the last few years, from the Winston Cup, to the Nextel Cup, to what is now called the Sprint Cup. The NHRA Winston Tour which was around forever was changed to the Powerade Tour and has been known by that ever since. And so it was only a matter of time before what has become known to many as the Show Me the Money Tour for the past 10 years would some day have a new title. Beginning in 2008 the former Show Me the Money Tour will now be known quite simply as the “BENSON TOUR”. In an effort to showcase the name of the company that has taken the series to the level it is at today, management of the tour felt this was the right thing to do. Obviously this is not something that everyone will get accustomed to overnight and we will continue to also use the “Show Me the Money” as a very important slogan for the Benson Tour. We know that most racers hate change, and we are no different and there is no question that the Show Me the Money name has become quite famous in the drag racing circles, and is quickly associated with BIG DOLLAR events. But after ten years it is time to take the series to a new and more professional sounding position, and we believe by changing the name to THE BENSON TOUR, we will have accomplished many of those quests all in one. Benson has quite clearly made the series what it is today, record crowds, record car counts and new exciting venues for the series. With the largest number of Auto Parts Stores in Canada, Benson Auto Parts not only gives us that cooperate image and financial backing, but it also gives hundreds of stores through out Ontario and Quebec to get the word of our series distributed through. We would also like to point out that another announcement concerning the new name for the former Quad Series will be coming prior to the drivers meeting, which will be held April 19th at Benson Auto Parts in Bells Corners. The dates for the Benson Tour are as follows, North Bay June 20-21-22, St. Thomas July 4-5-6, Elliot Lake July 18-19-20, Luskville Dragway Aug. 1-2-3, Luskville Dragway Aug. 29-30-31 and Shannonville Dragway Sept 12-13-14 the awards banquet will take place January 24, 2009.

99RACE PARTS TRAILER TO BE PART OF 2008 SEASON: MARCH 1, 08'
Drivers will be pleased to notice a new boy on the block this season, if there racing at Luskville Dragway or any of the Benson Auto Parts Tour events. A fully stocked race car parts trailer will be on site this year thanks to Benson Auto Parts and Glen Hyland in particular. Glen who is an avid drag racer and a key person in the putting together of the programs that come out of Benson will be responsible for this new endeavor.
The 99RACE Parts Trailer is just another added benefit of running Luskville Dragway or any of the Benson Auto Parts Tour events as we try and do everything possible to make our events as good as they can be. This is something that goes on at Stock Car tracks at almost every event in this country, but stock racing is much more repair on site related, so this great service has never been that well excepted at drag racing. But we cant not thank Glen and the good folks at Benson Auto Parts for putting this excellent racer benefit forward, but now its up to you the racers to use it, and obviously put it through on your 99RACE account automatically qualifying you for double your winnings. Drivers will also be able to order items and products for next week delivery, as we try and make it as easy as possible for drivers to qualify for the double up program. We would also like to point out that contrary to some comments Benson’s goes out of their way to make sure their price’s are as good as or better than anyone out there.

RACING SEASON FAST APPROACHING, DRIVERS MEETING APRIL 19TH: MARCH 1, 08'
Looking at the calendar yesterday, I was surprised and pleased to see that the racing season is just around the corner, and for most of us the beginning can not come soon enough. But prior to the kick off of the Benson Auto Parts Super Series Luskville Dragway on May 4th. We do have our annual Drivers Meeting on April 19th. at Benson Auto Parts in Bells Corners. Like last year the day will be more than just a Drivers Meeting, as a number of race cars will be on display as part of a race car show case, as well as a charity bar-b-que which was a huge success last year.  The drivers meeting is a time for new ideas to be brought forward and discussed, and over the years out of almost every drivers meeting has come a new idea from one racer or another, and contrary to what you might read on some message boards we do listen to all suggestions and idea’s. Because we don’t always agree with an idea doesn’t mean we don’t listen and take into consideration what each and everyone brings forward. Many years ago a driver brought forward the concept of how buy backs would go on the ladder in order that now confusion could ever be had by anyone thinking there might be some juggling of that going on. And even though to this day some drivers still don’t know or don’t care how it is done, buy backs go back on the ladder in the order they are beaten off. Meaning that after the ladder draw, which by the way is also done by the drivers? The buy backs are then put back on the bottom of the ladder in the order they come off, meaning if you are the first pair of cars at the top of the ladder and you loose and buy back in you are the first driver back on the ladder in the next round, and so on down the ladder. The ladder is also made accessible to anyone at anytime during eliminations at Luskville Dragway and the Benson Auto Parts Tour events.
We believe that this will be a break out year for drag racing locally as everything seems to be lining up for an incredible season, now don’t get me wrong last year was very good but we had one of the best year’s weather wise ever. We really believe that all signs point towards the largest ever year, car count wise, and one of the toughest battle’s ever for the points championships all series. If all those that say they are going to run the points series do we could quite possibly have some VERY new point’s champions. And with a number of BIG DOLLAR announcements to come out shortly concerning a number of the Tour races, the big dollars should make the attraction to the tour that much more inviting.
April 20th is also being scheduled as a pre season test and tune day at Luskville Dragway making it economically viable for teams to come down for the weekend, take in the meeting and do some testing as well, we will make LD open for Saturday night for anyone wishing to camp. So get in, sit down, put on your seat belts because we really do believe that the 2008 season will go down as one of the most incredible ever. So please make sure you are part of this annual event as many things are to be announced and discussed, and no meeting has ever been as important as this one, as we move into a new area in local drag racing.

TDL TRUCK REPAIR RETURNS FOR FIFTH YEAR IN A ROW: MARCH 1, 08'
If you where part of the awards banquet back in January you would have heard us comment on how many drag racers where successful business men. And how many of them did not forget that success when it came time to supporting their passion of drag racing with advertising dollars for their local track. Well one of those such individuals, who was present at the banquet was Greg Whelan, the owner and partner of TDL Truck Repair in Carp and TDL Truck Repair Russell Road, in the east end of Ottawa. Greg and his son Ryan make drag racing a very much family affair and have father and son traveling to many of the races that take place on the Benson Auto Parts Tour, as well as many weekends at Luskville Dragway. Greg and Ryan are very much Dodge People, and have established themselves as the GREEN TEAM for certain, (neon green ties and all for banquet). Yes Greg always seems to put a certain amount of fun into almost everything he does and that shows as they have made many friends in the drag racing community because of their positive attitude, and have fun not matter what way of thinking. Greg and his partner Tim, who runs the east end shop, have also not forgotten their home track either as for the past five years TDL Truck Repair has been supporting the NHRA facility with advertising dollars. Yes as we have pointed out many times Luskville Dragway is very, very fortunate to have such a large base of advertisers such as TDL Truck Repair and is with out question part of the success of the small track in Ottawa for the past 30 years. So if you have a truck, motor home, or any large vehicle make sure you keep this advertiser in mind when ever you are in the need of their type of service’s.
